Bequests for Scholarships

Bequests for Scholarships

Betty Donahue and Lonette Seaton are sisters who grew up in Tennessee. They support each other, their favorite sports teams and now, with their planned gifts, they will help to support Jacksonville University too! From a young age, both Betty and Lonette were raised to value education. Their parents believed in the power of a good education and moved the family to Knoxville to take advantage of a better public school system.

The women both graduated from college and then went on to successful careers. Over a span of 33 years, Lonette taught students in math and physical education in both the Knoxville and the Duval County public school systems. Betty pursued a career that included time with the YWCA and then with the federal government in Washington, D.C.

The women agree that their college experiences and education were wonderful. They want others to have the same educational opportunities, the chance to broaden their horizons and the occasion to meet fellow students with diverse backgrounds. Referring to gifts for education, Betty says that as far as she is concerned, "this is the best way to spend her money."

Now retired and living in Jacksonville, the sisters have had the opportunity to become familiar with JU and have even taken classes on campus. They have included bequests in their wills to help fund endowed scholarships that will make the dream of an education a reality for future JU students in need.

Betty and Lonette have no children and feel that these planned gifts are a way to benefit many children. As the gifts will be everlasting, their generosity will help to ensure that Jacksonville University is able to provide outstanding educational experiences to many young men and women as they pursue a higher education.
